further update

mitsurugireiji:

i hate making these posts even as they’re literally my only recourse for extra help but as the second house sale stalls i feel like i need to just update the last post with what’s happened over the past three months:

- the first house sale stalled for 8 months until the buyer dropped out (i had to pay £550 to £630 every single month in bills that’ve raised in the intervening year that i shouldn’t have to be paying the entire time)
- the second house sale is also stalling but for a shorter (?) amount of time, for whatever mercy that is. i still have to pay the boosted bills as best i can for however long we wait, which so far has been 3 months and is looking to be at least another three
- i have basically had to scrimp, save, beg, and earn about £6050 over the past 11 months that has immediately gone onto bills and this is still with me being owed my £2000 back from my family that i’m yet to be paid back even though i am in desperate need of my own finances back
- my savings are just decimated lmao, i’m doing everything i can to retain about £550 in my account at the end of the month just so i can shell out for the raised storage & council tax

incidental things are:
- my phone’s battery died and i couldn’t afford repairs so i had to buy a kit and source a battery myself to fix it which was about £60 (but that’s cheaper than taking it to apple repair so lmao)
- i’m still having to do all this while attempting to save for our eventual move, whenever that is. i’ve sort of…had to make my peace with the fact that i will almost certainly not be able to save enough and will have to just…cross that bridge when we come to it bc i literally cannot spin that plate among everything else
- it’s like 35C and i probably will have to shell out £20 for an air cooler so that’s a fun expense

basically i still need support in making ends meet for however fucking long we’re still here. any help is appreciated, as are reblogs, or just moral support bc i cannot express how tired i am with this and everything else

Happy 15th Anniversary to Treasure Planet.

Here’s some of the beautiful and inventive development art by various artists including Peter Clarke and a painted story sketch of the Legacy being pulled into a black hole by Francis Glebas. Francis painted his entire sequence- so great!

girl in horror movie holding a bible open: “according to legend, a mob tortured a half-man, half-god, and nailed him to a wooden cross, leaving him to starve to death. But days later, on this very night, they found he had clawed his way out of the grave. Now those who believe lie in wait for him to rise again, To honour him, they have weekly gatherings where they chant and sing, and at the end of it they eat his flesh and blood.”

L O L

……did they Photoshop her unibrow?

They Photoshopped her fucking unibrow!!!!

I’m screaming the irony in the never apologise for who you are then making her lighter and photoshooting her brow so it could be mistaken as a shadow

Also I’m pretty sure she was anti capitalism so the fact that they’re trying to sell stuff in her name is equal parts funny and disgusting

She was high key anti capitalism and fucking hated white people and Americans so the fact that her estate all the way sold her out to hawk some make up palettes is SENDING! ME!

Anyone who would buy this because they’re fan of Kahlo ain’t gonna get it because this represents everything she hated!!!

I have to assume her estate doesn’t know about this because there’s nothing about it on the twitter page, so ULTA is finna get a fire lit in that ass lmfaooooo

Hi, OP here

“If autism isn’t caused by environmental factors and is natural why didn’t we ever see it in the past?”

We did, except it wasn’t called autism it was called “Little Jonathan is a r*tarded halfwit who bangs his head on things and can’t speak so we’re taking him into the middle of the cold dark forest and leaving him there to die.”

Or “little Jonathan doesn’t talk but does a good job herding the sheep, contributes to the community in his own way, and is, all around, a decent guy.” That happened a lot, too, especially before the 19th century.

Or, backing up FURTHER

and lots of people think this very likely,

“Oh little Sionnat has obviously been taken by the fairies and they’ve left us a Changeling Child who knows too much, and asks strange questions, and uses words she shouldn’t know, and watches everything with her big dark eyes, clearly a Fairy Child and not a Human Like Us.”

The Myth of the Changeling child, a human baby apparently replaced at a young age by a toddler who “suddenly” acts “strange and fey” is an almost textbook depiction of autistic children.

To this day, “autism warrior mommies” talk about autism “stealing” their “sweet normal child” and have this idea of “getting their real baby back” which (in the face of modern science)  indicates how the human psyche actually does deal with finding out their kid acts unlike what they expected.

Given this evidence, and how common we now know autism actually is, the Changeling myth is almost definitely the result of people’s confusion at the development of autistic children.

Weirdly enough, that legend is now comforting to me.

I think it’s worth noting that many like me, who are diagnosed with ASD now, would probably have been seen as just a bit odd in centuries past. I’m only a little bit autistic; I can pass for neurotypical for short periods if I work really hard at it. I have a lack of talent in social situations, and I’m prone to sensory overload or you might notice me stimming.

But here’s the thing: life is louder, brighter and more intense and confusing than it has ever been. I live on the edge of London and I rarely go into the centre of town because it’s too overwhelming. If I went back in time and lived on a farm somewhere, would anyone even notice there was anything odd about me? No police sirens, no crowded streets that go on for miles and miles, no flickery electric lights. Working on a farm has a clear routine. I’d be a badass at spinning cloth or churning butter because I find endless repetition soothing rather than boring.

I’m not trying to romanticise the past because I know it was hard, dirty work with a constant risk of premature death. I don’t actually want to be a 16th century farmer! What I’m saying is that disability exists in the context of the environment. Our environment isn’t making people autistic in the sense of some chemical causing brain damage. But we have created a modern environment which is hostile to autistic people in many ways, which effectively makes us more disabled. When you make people more disabled, you start to see more people struggling, failing at school because they’re overwhelmed, freaking out at the sound of electric hand dryers and so on. And suddenly it looks like there’s millions more autistic people than existed before.

“…disability exists in the context of the environment.”

Reblog for disability commentary.

That last paragraph is absolutely important.

“How come nobody ever heard of ‘dyslexia’ until widespread literacy became a thing?”
